Multi-instrumentalist, producer and music industry veteran Craig Franklin Shields has spent over three decades mastering his craft. Known for his stellar performances in the Edwin McCain Band, his style is often described as a soul-infused blend of Southern rock.
As long-time musical director and multi-instrumentalist for the Edwin McCain Band, Craig has been an integral part of the group’s platinum and gold-certified success. The band’s success has garnered covers from pop icons like Justin Bieber and Charlie Puth. and have toured everywhere under the sun – from intimate dive bars to packed stadiums across the country.
Despite his formal training (including degrees from West Virginia University’s music program and the prestigious U.S. Navy Music School), Craig approaches each performance with refreshing authenticity.
Among career highlights, Craig cites the band’s appearance on The Tonight Show as particularly meaningful. Another standout was during the Honor Among Thieves tour, where he shared stages with acts like Hootie & the Blowfish.
Beyond performing, Craig has served as a driving force in the music industry. He’s served as a tour manager since 1994 through his company, Shields Music Solutions in Charleston, SC. His behind-the-scenes expertise includes organizing travel, coordinating with venues and promoters, maintaining equipment, and planning itineraries, all while upholding professional standards both on and off stage.
With the Edwin McCain Band’s new release “Lucky” dropping March 2025 and an upcoming 2025 summer tour supporting Train, Craig’s musical journey continues to evolve.
