Randy started his keyboard career at the age of seven on accordion and within a few years he adapted his keyboard skills to both piano and organ. To bridge the transition to organ, his first Hammond lessons were taught on the Hammond S6 chord organ. He quickly developed his organ skills to playing double manuals and kicking pedals. By high school Randy was playing piano in the orchestra and performing soul, blues and rock on the weekends with friends. Growing up with musical influences by Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Felix Cavaliere, Stevie Winwood and Booker T provided a soulful melting pot of jazz, funk, soul and rock to build upon.
Randy’s college years were filled with playing in school related events along with pubs and clubs. In the mid-70’s Randy recorded with “Peddler” at TRC Studios in Indianapolis for Chi-Town Records, a United Artist label. He has stayed musically creative in various studio projects while he mainly focused on building a career in finance. In 2006 a studio jam with Randy, Bill (“Willie”) Mullin and Marc Colby, titled “Cincinnati Lights”, was picked up by a local Cincinnati Smooth Jazz station for 27 weeks.
Live performances included working with a local blues group with club gigs and blues fests while continuing to help friends with their various music projects. Randy also performs as main stage musician at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati where he can blend spontaneity and passion for worship services.
While Randy currently plays vintage B3, A105 and XK3c in various venues, he believes the new XK5 sounds and feels awesome by mixing the best of “old school” Hammond soul into a sweet new package of technology for exceptional expression.
